After 10 years of guiding, I’ve found that some folks are more interested in learning specific things about their electronics or their favorite body of water than they are about catching fish. Sometimes a traditional guide trip is not the right fit. Here are two options that can better fit the needs of an angler looking to improve their skills.
A lake consultation is essentially an in-depth report on a specific body of water focusing on a specific species of fish. This can be a good fit for an avid angler who has just recently purchased property on a lake, or someone who regularly fishes the same body of water and is looking for an outside perspective. The report delves deep into historical survey data gathered by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Fisheries office, as well as the my anecdotal experience with the lake. The report is custom catered to the requests of the angler, but usually consists of a breakdown of a targeting a species throughout the open water season, including habitats to target, specific techniques and when to use them, as well as a personalized map identifying regions of the lake to try throughout the season. The consultation includes a 10-15 page report sent to the angler, and then a follow up meeting or phone call to discuss the report in depth and answer any questions the angler may have.
Lake Consult Cost: $400
Fishing electronics have come a long way over the past two decades, and they play an integral part in my success as a guide. They are also a large investment that can be difficult to interpret without many hours of on-the-water experience. For electronics consultation I join you in your boat and help you learn to use your own tools to their fullest potential. I can help you learn to read 2D sonar, down imaging, side imaging, and forward-facing sonar, and well as the GPS and mapping tools. I can also help troubleshoot issues you may be having with your units. Sometimes these are simple adjustments to the unit or transducer itself, other times it requires the assistance of a certified technician. If that’s the case, I work closely with the staff at The Musky House Marine in Longville to help resolve more complicated issues.
Electronics Consult (2-3 Hours): $300
Note: My guide season can get very busy. I usually try to schedule consultations before the walleye season begins, or during the early afternoon hours as my schedule allows.
